Fillings:
There are many different types of fillings available, and we will help you decide which type is best for you, depending on the location and condition of the tooth, durability and longevity, the cost and your insurance coverage. For most patients, we use silver amalgam or white composite fillings.
Silver amalgam fillings are made from a mixture of silver, tin, zinc, copper and mercury. These fillings are widely used because of their low cost, strength and durability, typically lasting as long as 25 years.
Composite fillings are also very popular because they are made of a tooth-colored material, making them less noticeable. Composite fillings are made of a resin/plastic material, and we use a bright blue curing light to harden the filling, bonding it to the tooth. This type of filling lasts approximate 2/3 the length of a silver filling.
